Thank You Card Wording: Guide and Examples

Thank you card wording is the text you write inside a thank you card. It has 3 parts: greeting, body, closing. The body names the gift, states how you will use it, and repeats thanks. Write 2 to 4 sentences. Handwrite the card for personal gifts. Type the card for business notes.

Structure

Use this structure for most thank you cards.

  1. Greeting: 'Dear [Name],'
  2. Body: 2 to 3 sentences. Sentence 1: 'Thank you for [gift].' Sentence 2: 'I will [action].' Sentence 3: 'Thanks again.'
  3. Closing: 'Thanks,' or 'Best,' then your name.

Timing

Send thank you cards within 2 weeks of receiving a gift. Send within 24 hours of a job interview. Send within 3 days of a dinner or party. Send a card after the deadline. A card sent after the deadline is better than no card.
